VHJOE is produced to be an on-line clinical journal that takes advantage of the capabilities of the internet. To this end, VHJOE authors can publish articles with audio or video clips, and use as many images as they feel are appropriate, as there is no limit as in traditional print media. Furthermore, the journal is linked in a unique way to the Visible Human dataset by the Visible Human Interactive Atlas, which allows authors to put interactive anatomy into their articles as desired (Figure 1).

VHJOE is a work in progress and continues to evolve. We continue to add features and make improvements, as exemplified by the new design of the journal starting with this issue. New items include providing additional information about VHJOE related features, such as the VH Interactive Atlas and the Visible Human Experience. Additionally, we had added a section for Gastroenterology Fellows and have linked references from articles to their direct indexed sources, where applicable, on PubMed.

During the same time VHJOE was being developed, a remarkable internet resource was created by Peter Kelsey, M.D., Brenna Bounds, M.D. and William Brugge, M.D. of Harvard Medical School, in association with Massachusetts General Hospital. It is known as the DAVE project. DAVE is an acronym for the Digital Atlas of Video Education and features a series of video clips and lectures which beautifully illustrate procedures, histology, and current topics in clinical gastroenterology. To view the video clips in DAVE, Real Player is required. Real Player is a free, downloadable video player available on the internet.

VHJOE feels this resource is important enough that we are placing a link to it on our front page. We feel this is a tremendous opportunity for our authors and readers to improve their learning experiences and increase their enjoyment of both VHJOE and the DAVE project. Additionally, we encourage submissions to VHJOE to use links to DAVE when an article may be further enhanced by referencing a DAVE video clip.

A fascinating video clip entitled "Colon- Pinworm or Enterobius Vermicularis" from DAVE is available to view by clicking here. An additional link to DAVE is included in this issues's Featured Movie.
